What Is NetMonster?           Storyline

NetMonster is an interactive game of monster collecting.  Players (known in the gaming world as hunters) Search for the NetMonster Cage Button Fig 1.1.1 on various webpages scattered about the net.  Once a hunter finds a NetMonster (or NM for short), the hunter then fires up his NetMonster software, selects "Capture a Monster" from the Main Menu Fig 1.1.2, Enters the Complete URL where he found the Button into the NetMonster Tracker Fig 1.1.3  and the hunt is on.  What happens next is what makes the game interesting.  Either he finds a new NMr to join him in his quest,  he finds a hostile NM that he has to fight against, or he finds one of the many surprises scattered about the web.

So what is"The Quest" anyway?  The story goes like so...

The Story
Many Years ago when the web was still young and new all the NMs lived happily in the White Mask Netmonster Rift.  No one is sure why they were there, how they got there or where they came from, but anyway, there they were and there they would have stayed.  Of course Happiness and contentment are lousy components for and engaging game, this is why we now encounter SHADE.

Shade is an evil Phantom Mage who couldn't stand to be imprisoned within the digital walls of the original NetMonster Rift no matter how huge his self perceived prison was.  He lay in silence watching the comings and goings of his "captors", learning the secrets of the rift.  All the while the icy hatred in his heart grew.  After years of careful study Shade made his move.

Through Magic, Psychology, and sheer intimidation Shade gathered several thousand of his fellow Malcontented NMs and broke free.  Now The rogue NMs are everywhere causing havoc on the web.  The clog phone lines, impede connection speeds, lock browsers, corrupt code, and even pull your favorite pages off the web leaving in its place the dreaded "Page Can Not Be Displayed".  Clearly they Must be stopped.

Of course not all of the escaped NMs are evil.  Many of them realized they had been led on by Shade's insane plan, many more sneaked away after the initial fear and the Magical spells that bound them wore off.  Some NMs were actually born (or whatever) free in the net, descendents of the original escapees.  These NetMonsters have never even seen the White Mask NetMonster Rift, and May not even know who Shade is (though a cold chill will still crawl through their spines at the utterance of his name).  However they got there, It's your job (isn't it always) to find them, recruit them, or defeat them, but that's not all.   Your ultimate goal, is to track down the legendary Phantom mage who caused this whole mess lo those may years ago.  Of course You'll need some help.

Along the way you'll find many Special NMs that, if you're worthy, will help you with your quest.  The Majority of the NMs out there realize that Shade is a menace to the entire world, and will lend their hands (paws, claws, pseudopodia, whatever) to your Quest.  Plus you'll encounter many strange wonderful, and often, downright horrifying.  It's guaranteed to be a wild ride.

Anyway, in answer to the original question, NetMonster, is a game you play over the internet which is what this site is all about.  If you've played and loved Pokemon, Monster Rancher, or Monster Rancher 2, or if you've ever obsessed over a Tamagotchi, Gigapet, or Digimon, this is a game for you.

Where Do I get It?

This ones Easy. Just look up there at the end of the last question.  You can download the Free Version, or register your copy at www.whitemask.com/netMonster

How Much Does it Cost?

If you're a cheap gamer like me you can download a Limited Free Version.  The Free Version will only allow you to hold a number of monsters whose levels sum up to under 2000 (ie a level 58 Water Mage and a Level 22 Fire Ghost count as 80 toward the limit of 2000).   This affects your ability to move up the ranks and essentially hobbles you at the Trainee level since you have to have more than 2000 to reach the next level, Proffessional. (for more info on ranking goto http://www.whitemask.com/NetMonster/capturerank.htm).   If you don't mind being passed over for promotion you can hunt with the Free Version all you want for as long as you want to get a feel for the game, also when your Capturelevel increases above 2000 the free version will automatically ask you which monsters to ditch and the NetMonster Resistance Corp, NMRC, will save those monsters for you in case you decide to Register, which brings us to our next point...

The registered version:   For the one-time Low low price of $29.99 US / $39.99 Canada You can become one of the NMRC's Elite.  By registering your copy of netMonster You open up a world of gameplay you just can't access with the Free Version.  Because you're stuck at trainee, You'll have trouble getting the higher level monsters, and you won't have as Many monsters to choose from (think bowie knife and 9mm as compared to th national Armoury).   Once you start going up against Bosses and other higher level NMs you're going to appreciate the higher firepower you get with the registered version.  What's more, registration is quick and painless.  After downloading the Free Version take a quick trip to http://www.whitemask.com/NetMonster/license.htm and follow the links filling out the forms along the way. Don't forget to tell them who sent you! ryan_keech@hotmail.com
